TransAgra International Inc. is a small, privately-held manufacturing company located in northwest Iowa. The company manufactures microbial fermentation products for use in agriculture. Product lines include animal feed supplements, forage additives and plant growth stimulants. The company's effective and environmentally responsible products help customers around the world operate more sustainably while increasing productivity in their operations.
Products are marketed under the company's CULBAC brand name ("cultured bacteria") and private label brands. Several products are certified for use in organic production and in 2010 the company's manufacturing facility received Safe Food/Safe Feed certification from the American Feed Industry Association.
Company History
TransAgra Int'l Inc. was originally founded in the 1960s when a scientist, Herbert R Peer, come up with the original manufacturing process. In 1961, Ferma-Gro Corporation produced and marketed Peer's new biotechnological product as an animal feed supplement. Further researched in the 1970's led to the addition of the forage and plant product lines. In 1975 the company was acquired by Texas Gas Transmission Corp and the name was changed to TransAgra Corporation. Present control succeeded in 1984 and the name was changed to TransAgra Int'l Inc. to reflect the company's world-wide operations. Currently the company maintains its manufacturing facility in Storm Lake, Iowa and corporate offices in Chicago, IL.
