About the College of Science and Engineering
The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) currently offers the largest selection of undergraduate and graduate programs within the university and aspires to be a leading college committed to excellence in research and education with a major emphasis on innovative teaching and interdisciplinary research and scholarship. CSE offers 4 undergraduate majors in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, and several MS and PhD degrees in sustainable energy and environment, ICT, and Engineering Management and Decision Sciences. CSE faculty members are internationally recognized for pursuing high-impact research addressing societal and economic needs in Qatar and globally.
Position
The Mechanical Engineering Program at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is seeking applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Thermo-Fluids with a focus on HVAC systems, smart and renewable energy experimentation and modelling, and sustainable building energy systems. We seek candidates with a strong background in thermo-fluid sciences applied to buildings and energy systems, with an emphasis on advanced experimental methods and high-fidelity modelling. Candidates who integrate emerging approaches in thermo-fluids—such as AI-enabled and data-driven modelling, digital twins for buildings and districts, multi-scale and multi-physics simulation, advanced thermal storage, and resilience of energy systems in arid climates—are particularly encouraged to apply.
Outstanding candidates with exceptional research and academic records may be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level
Job Description

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering and thermo-fluid sciences

Develop a strong, externally funded research program in thermo-fluid sciences
-
Collaborate with industry and government stakeholders to advance Qatar’s national goals

Contribute to curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Supervise undergraduate and graduate students

Mentor postdoctoral researchers

Provide services to the Division, College, the University, and the Profession by serving on committees and contributing to key initiatives

Contribute to the broader research and innovation ecosystem at HBKU
Requirements
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience

A Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution

A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in higher education, research institutions or industry (more years of experience are required for candidates who may be considered at the Associate Professor rank)

Demonstrated scholarly record, with a relevant Ph.D. dissertation and publications in reputable, high-impact journals.

Evidence of strong commitment to teaching excellence and curriculum development

Demonstrated commitment to professional and institutional services

Ability to work with and exposure to diverse groups, cultures, and communities
Additional Requirements/Skills
The candidate is expected to collaborate with industry and government partners such as KAHRAMAA, Qatar Cool, Marafeq Qatar, QatarEnergy, Ashghal, and urban development initiatives on sustainability and smart city projects to support Qatar’s national sustainability, climate resilience, and energy efficiency goals.
