Proficiency Testing Programs Manager

Function of Position:

  • Provides oversight and technical support of AOCS proficiency testing programs
  • Serves as the deputy for certified reference materials program managed by AOCS
  • Assists Technical Director in analytical method development activities

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight and technical support of AOCS proficiency testing programs, including,
    • AOCS Laboratory Proficiency Program (LPP)
    • AOCS/NOPA Certified Laboratory statistical evaluation
    • Proficiency testing program reporting of third parties
    • Statistical analysis and scoring of test reports
  • Develops and maintains accurate and complete SOP’s that describe procedures supporting A2LA accreditation of LPP under ISO 17043 (currently under development). Develops annual budget for proficiency testing programs and generates monthly projections of revenues and expenses associated with these programs
  • Scores applicants for AOCS Approved Chemist program
  • Serves as the Quality Manager for the certified reference materials program managed by AOCS
  • Acts as liaison for chairs/subchairs of AOCS proficiency testing oversight committees
  • Administer collaborative studies and run statistics on data to assess methods for submission for approval to the unified methods committee
  • Provides core content for marketing materials related to AOCS technical services products and programs, as appropriate
  • As necessary, takes minutes at relevant technical committee meetings, transcribes the minutes and distributes them
  • As appropriate, represents the Technical Department and Director, Technical Services at related meetings
  • Researches and answers technical questions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in chemistry, food science, or similar scientific training/background; Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Strong background and/or experience in statistical analysis and analytical chemistry
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with an attention to detail
  • Service-oriented mindset with a positive “can do” attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact professionally and effectively in small office environment
  • Ability to use and understand basic computer programs, current technology, and office equipment
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural situations

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in areas of fats and oils science or technology
  • Experience with managing, or participating in, laboratory proficiency testing programs
  • Experience with GLP, GMP, ISO accreditation or similar standards
  • Experience with managing, or participating in, collaborative studies
  • Experience with statistical, database and project management software

Physical Skills:

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Health to travel and work under physically stressful conditions.
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Manual dexterity to operate telephone, computer, and other required tasks.
